Registration Process
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
The deadline for submitting an application for academic accommodations to be applied to the Fall 2024 semester is 11:59 pm on Thursday, November 28th, 2024. All applications for academic accommodations received after this date/time will be reviewed for Spring 2025 forward. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
How to get started:
- Step 1 - Submit an application:
Once you submit your application, an Accessibility Associate will contact you via email within 7-10 business days to schedule a time to discuss your application and next steps. Include any relevant information or documentation with your form. Review our disability documentation guidelines to learn what information is helpful to share. - Step 2 - Meet with your assigned Accessibility Associate:
During the Orientation Meeting, your Accessibility Associate will discuss how your disability impacts you, review your paperwork, and determine the reasonable and appropriate accommodations needed for your classes. - Step 3 - Request Letters to Professors or Connect with Your Program's Dean or Program Director:
Once you have completed the registration process with DSS and received your eligibility letter, you are required to request digital Letters to Professors for each class you would like to use accommodations or auxiliary aids. Letters to Professors provide faculty with notice of the accommodations you are eligible to use in their classes. Professors are not obligated to meet your request for accommodations without receiving a copy of your Letters to Professors. Accommodations are not retroactive.
For DSS students enrolled in the School of Law or School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS): You are required to contact your school's Dean or program director to finalize the implementation of accommodations and you are not required to request Letters to Professors. DSS will notify students during their registration meeting and via their eligibility letter if they need to contact their program director instead of requesting Letters to Professors.
Newly Matriculating Students
If you are newly matriculating to GW, either as a first-year student or as a transfer student, you will not be able to access our registration portal until you have received a GW email address.
Please complete the necessary processes with the appropriate admissions office (and any other relevant offices) before attempting to register with Disability Support Services.
Returning Students or Requests for Additional Accommodations
If you're already registered with GW Disability Support Services (DSS) and need to request additional or extended accommodations, follow the process outlined in our step-by-step guide.
