Registration Process
How to get started:
- Step 1 - Submit an application:
Once you submit your application, an Accessibility Associate will contact you via email within 7-10 business days to schedule a time to discuss your application and next steps. Include any relevant information or documentation with your form. Review our disability documentation guidelines to learn what information is helpful to share. - Step 2 - Meet with your assigned Accessibility Associate:
During the Orientation Meeting, your Accessibility Associate will discuss how your disability impacts you, review your paperwork, and determine the reasonable and appropriate accommodations needed for your classes. - Step 3 - Request Accommodation Letters to Professors:
Once you have completed the registration process with DSS, you will then have access to your DSS Student Portal. To request academic accommodation letters for the current semester, navigate to "Accommodation Requests" on the homepage of the DSS Student Portal. Under “Accommodation Requests,” select “Add Requests for Classes.” You then should see a list of your current classes. Here, you will have the opportunity to select the classes for which you are requesting accommodations. Once you confirm your selection of the accommodations to be implemented in the course, the portal will send out notifications to your professor. As your professors and course instructors change throughout your academic career, you will need to complete this process each new semester you wish to utilize your accommodations for.
Note: If you are a student in GW Law or the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), please note that your accommodation letter will be sent to your program laison.
Newly Matriculating Students
If you are newly matriculating to GW, either as a first-year student or as a transfer student, you will not be able to access our registration portal until you have received a GW email address.
Please complete the necessary processes with the appropriate admissions office (and any other relevant offices) before attempting to register with Disability Support Services.
Returning Students or Requests for Additional Accommodations
If you're already registered with GW Disability Support Services (DSS) and need to request additional or extended accommodations, follow the process outlined in our step-by-step guide.
