Students Enrolled in the School of Nursing (SON)

Students in the School of Nursing (SON) seeking classroom and/or clinical accommodations should submit an Academic Application. SON students already registered with DSS seeking additional accommodations should submit an Additional Accommodations Request.

Karalyn Stanley is the DSS primary contact for the SON. SON students with questions regarding classroom or clinical accommodations may contact Karalyn for assistance.

Special Instructions:

  • SON students who are taking in-person classes at the Virginia Science Technology Campus (VSTC) and are approved by DSS for testing accommodations, can request exam proctoring through the SON at the VSTC.
  • For SON students approved for DSS accommodations, Rebecca Morrow, the SON Director of Student Services, is the point of contact regarding the implementation of accommodations at the SON.

Clinical Accommodations: SON students may request clinical accommodations through DSS. Supporting documentation should demonstrate a clear and direct link between the student’s disability related needs and the requested clinical accommodations. Due to the specialized nature of the clinical setting, DSS will work closely with the student’s program leadership to determine eligibility for clinical accommodations.

Verification of Accommodations:  DSS can provide official verification of accommodations. This documentation can be used by SON students who are applying for accommodations on their professional licensure exams, such as the NCLEX. More information on how to apply for accommodations on professional exams can be found on the exam administrators’ websites.
